NFPA 1006 Surface Water Rescue Awareness
Welcome to your NFPA 1006 Surface Water Rescue Awareness course. This course is intended for rescue service personnel that respond to water rescue incidents and work within an established Incident Command System.
Each lesson will help you make critical decisions and act confidently during real surface water emergencies, ensuring professional and safe responses.
A certificate of qualification is available upon successful course completion.
NFPA 1006: Swift Water Rescue Awareness - Online
The Swift Water Rescue Awareness course is based on the NFPA 1006 Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications and is designed for rescue service personnel who respond to and support water rescue operations.
This online program introduces water rescue subjects that include hydrology, site assessment and hazard recognition, Personal Protective Equipment, and industry-mandated safety measures. This course is the pre-requisite for our swift water rescue operations program. A certificate is issued on successful completion.
You will have 2 weeks to complete the online program once it is activated and you may access it multiple occasions during that period.
NFPA 1006: Flood Rescue Awareness - Online
The Flood Water Rescue Awareness course is based on the NFPA 1006 Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications and is designed for rescue service personnel who respond to and support flood water rescue operations.
During your course, we will be introduced to the following topics:
- Introduction to types of floods and relate them to an emergency response that occurred in 2024.
- The “Safety Concept” and relate this concept to required actions to prepare and respond to a flood water rescue.
- Hydrology and Water Hazards associated with swift water and flood response.
- Additional Urban and Rural Hazards
- Pre-planning for a response to a potential flood rescue.
- Requirements for supporting technician-level entry rescue.
Your certificate is available for download upon successful completion of this 2-hour course.

Working around Water Safety - Online
This course is recommended for Parks Enforcement Officers, Environment Officers, Hydrometric Scientists and Conservation Authority Staff.
This online program introduces subjects that include hydrology, site assessment and hazard recognition, Personal Protective Equipment, and industry-mandated safety measures that include a task safety analysis and safety plan. A certificate is issued on successful completion.
You will have 2 weeks to complete the online program once it is activated and you may access it multiple occasions during that period.
