The Working around Ice Safety course is designed for personnel who conduct vocational activities on and around ice. This course is recommended for Parks Enforcement Officers, Environment Officers, Hydrometric Scientists and Conservation Authority Staff.
This online program introduces subjects that include ice formation and ice hydrology, site assessment and hazard recognition, Personal Protective Equipment, and industry-mandated safety measures. A certificate is issued on successful completion.
You will have 2 weeks to complete the online program once it is activated and you may access it multiple occasions during that period.
Designed specifically for staff that perform duties on and around ice, this course is recommended for personnel that travel across frozen bodies of water or are required to inspect accidents and incidents impacting the environment or obtain and record environmental samples. The program is popular with marine researchers, hydrometric technicians and water quality inspectors.
During our 1-day practical course, the participant will identify legislative compliant requirements for working around and on ice. As a participant, you will be able to identify various ice types, conduct and document a hazard site assessment and establish a safe working plan, identify and employ appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, determine relatively safe working conditions and be able to self-rescue from an accidental immersion.
All required PPE is supplied. However, feel welcome to also bring any PPE supplied by your employer.
We deliver numerous courses each season throughout Ontario from Thunderbay to Kingston. Consider contacting us to host a working on ice safety course within your region.
