    SWIFT WATER RESCUE TRAINING

    NFPA 1006: Swift Water Rescue Awareness

    The Swift Water Rescue Awareness course is based on the NFPA 1006 Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications and is designed for rescue service personnel who respond to and support water rescue operations.   


    This online program introduces water rescue subjects that include hydrology, site assessment and hazard recognition, Personal Protective Equipment, and industry-mandated safety measures. This course is the pre-requisite for our swift water rescue operations program. 

    • This course is the pre-requisite for our operations level training  
    • A certificate is issued on successful completion  
    • Tuition: $48

    NFPA 1006: Surface Water Rescue Operations and Technician

    This course is delivered over two-days and provides a Surface Water Rescue Operations and Technician Certificate. It is led by professional rescuers and is delivered at a lake.


    Topics include: Rescuer safety; Identifying potential dangers through learning about hydrology and the dynamics of moving water; Site survey; Scene size-up and the Risk/benefit analysis; Self-rescue and survival tactics; Contact go-rescues; An introduction to rigging rescue systems.

    • The student to instructor ratio is 7:1
    • Time: Start 9:30 am Conclude 5:00 pm
    • Location: Provincial Whitewater Training Centre, Minden, Ontario 
    • Tuition $475 plus HST

    This fast-paced experiential course is delivered over two-days and provides an Operations Certificate. It is led by professional rescuers and is an intensive practical application of river rescue philosophy and techniques.

    NFPA 1006: Swift Water Rescue - Police Service

    This advanced two-day course is tailored towards police service marine personnel. It is led by professional rescuers and is an intensive team-based practical application of river rescue techniques.   

    • Time Start 9 am Conclude 5 pm   
    • Location: Provincial Whitewater training Centre, Minden, Ontario   
    • Tuition $475 plus HST 
    • Pre-Requisite: Swiftwater Rescue Operations and an active member of a police service.

    NFPA 1006: Swift Water Rescue Instructor

    This four-day course is an intensive practical application of water rescue philosophy and techniques. Meeting the NFPA 1006 standard, you will utilize previously mastered skills in a variety of rescue situations. You will plan, deliver, and evaluate an instructional unit. 

    • The student to instructor ratio is 7:1
    • Time Start 9 am Conclude 5 pm 
    • Location: Provincial Whitewater training Centre, Minden, Ontario 
    • Tuition $1250 plus HST
    • Pre-Requisite: Swiftwater Rescue Technician or equivalency and registration through your respective agency.


    An optional day-5 is available for AS & E evaluation through the OFM.
