Confined Space Entry

CONFINED SPACE REGULATORY TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

If a workplace includes a confined space that workers may enter to perform work, the employer shall ensure that a written program for the confined space is developed and maintained and that all workers and supervisors are trained in accordance with this Regulation before a worker enters the confined space. In part; the Regulation states the requirements to identify and document:

  • A method for recognizing each confined space to which the program applies
  • A method for assessing the hazards to which workers may be exposed
  • A method for the development of one or more plans
  • A method for the training of workers An entry permit system that sets out the measures and procedures to be followed when work is to be performed in a confined space to which the program applies.

Confined Space Entry and Attendant E-Learning Program

The Confined Space Entry and Attendant course is designed for personnel who conduct vocational activities in and around confined spaces.  The confined spaces provisions in sector-based regulations made under the Occupational Health and Safety Act ensure that workers entering, working in or working near confined spaces are protected. This curriculum defines, explains and cites examples of confined space, associated hazards and safety measures. A certificate is issued on successful completion.

Purchase E-Learning Course

CONFINED SPACE ENTRY AND ATTENDANT

Our most popular program: This course identifies the obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Confined Spaces Regulation (O. Reg. 632/05) and meets Section 8: Hazard Recognition and other general training of the Regulation.

Designed specifically for staff that perform duties in and around confined spaces, this 1-day practical course defines the term confined space and cites examples of confined space. The participant will identify physical and environmental hazards and will learn how to assess a space for potential environmental hazards through the use of a multi-gas monitor. Participants, will be introduced to related PPE and participate in confined space entry scenarios.

Course Location: Burlington, ON  *Employers may host at their location if suitable training props are available.

Tuition: $325 plus HST per participant.

CONFINED SPACE ENTRY AND THE SUPERVISOR

This course identifies the obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Confined Spaces Regulation (O. Reg. 632/05).

Designed specifically for staff that perform supervisory duties in and around confined spaces, this 1-day course is classroom based and expands upon the CONFINED SPACE ENTRY AND ATTENDANT course.

The participant will review the legislative requirements of the worker, supervisor and employer along with preparing, communicating and working with a sample Hazard Assessment and Safe Work Plan.

Course Location: Burlington, ON   *Employers may host at their location. This is a classroom based course.

Please Note: This course is only available to groups of 5 participants or more.  Tuition: $325 plus HST per participant.

CONFINED SPACE AND ENVIRONMENTAL GAS MONITORING

The Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Confined Spaces Regulation (O. Reg. 632/05) requires, in-part, that any employer and supervisor ensures all workers are properly trained in the use of protective equipment.

Designed specifically for staff that perform attendant, entry and on-site supervisory duties in and around confined spaces, this 1-day course is classroom based and explores the proper and correct use of a multi-gas monitor. The participant will review common gases and their characteristics used to calibrate a multi-gas monitor and will utilize the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Guide along with conversion factor tables to research and calculate the physical properties, hazards and mitigation strategies of respective gases.

Course Location: Burlington, ON   *Employers may host at their location.

Please Note: This course is only available to groups of 5 participants or more.  Tuition: $325 plus HST per participant.

CONFINED SPACE ENTRY AND RESCUE

This course identifies and documents the obligations under the Confined Spaces Regulation (O. Reg. 632/05) Section 11 and Section 12.   The employer is required to ensure that no worker enters or remains in a confined space unless, in accordance with the relevant plan, adequate written on-site rescue procedures that apply to the confined space have been developed and are ready for immediate implementation.

In addition, prior to a worker entering a confined space, the employer is required to ensure that an adequate number of persons trained in performing a rescue are available for immediate implementation of the on-site rescue procedures.

Designed specifically for staff that perform duties in and around confined spaces, this 2-day practical course is a comprehensive “hands-on” session. Participants, will be introduced to confined space entry and rescue procedures, develop a rescue plan and participate in a series of complex confined space rescue scenarios.

Course Location: Burlington, ON   *Employers may host at their location if suitable training props are available.
