Established in 2003, we have specialized in technical rescue training and similar safety-related training for Federal and Provincial Government agencies. Our repeat clients are numerous and include large and small fire services and police services. Feel welcome to contact us and ask for references.
We deliver awareness; operations; technician; and instructor-level training programs for the following rescue disciplines:
Our curriculum is designed specifically meeting the NFPA 1006 2021 edition. The NFPA 1006 Standard includes well-designed general Job-Performance Requirements. However, these JPRs are intentionally not designed as Learning Outcomes that are specific to the equipment, techniques, and operational procedures we use in the fire service. Access Rescue have designed and included Learning Outcomes for each level of qualification and each technical rescue discipline.
We have designed specific Learning Outcomes and Enabling Objectives so that each participant can master program content.
In addition, we integrate the necessary requirements of our Province's legislation including the Firefighter Guidance Notes.
Participants will understand their responsibilities, duties, authorities and exemptions under the OHSA, FPPA, and Confined Space O. Reg. 632/05 within context of technical rescue response within your municipality.
We provide all Personal Protective Equipment and rescue equipment for your program. For example, if you have 25 firefighters to train for ice rescue... we will bring 25 full sets of ice related PPE.
We provide a site specific Training Safety Plan, letter of insurance coverage, and if requested, inclusive of naming your municipality on the coverage.
We will meet with your Department representative and review your Operational Procedures and Guidelines prior to integrating them into your course's program.
You may collaborate with neighbouring Fire Departments to seek training and certification.
We provide a pre-contact online component to be completed prior to day-1 of the course. This online course introduces all the required theory for the program and its evaluation.
Upon request, we will integrate any specific Operational Guidelines into the online program along with integrating related knowledge questions . This captures required MOL documentation for your employees.
The majority of course content is skill-based and driven by mastery-learning with the culmination of scenario-based training.
The OFM’s Academic Standards and Evaluation is responsible for:
In addition, this unit issues certificates with International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) seals and National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board®) applications.
The respective fire service is required to seek registration and approval of the evaluation process leading to certification directly through the Academic Standards and Evaluation Unit of the OFM. The OFM has specific requirements and timelines for you to meet eligibility.
We will assist with this process. Specifically, we will provide your Department with the following documentation:
Each item is available to your Department for ongoing in-house training.
We will provide a lead-instructor to facilitate or assist the OFM Proctor during the practical evaluation.
Note: Our public registration programs are delivered to NFPA compliant standards but do not meet the requirements for IFSAC certification through the OFM.

Access provides technical rescue subject matter expertise to our service second to none, with safety as their primary priority. Knowledge of Ministry of Labour legislation, regulations and NFPA standards is Mark Alderman's forte providing learners with a depth of knowledge not provided by any other third-party provider that I've encountered".
Division Chief Trevor Shea
Please Note: Our courses are NFPA compliant programs and do not supply an IFSAC accreditation for public registration courses.
Fire Services, within Ontario, that are trained through Access Rescue are eligible for IFSAC accreditation through the OFM.
